Vertigo

Things are going swimmingly

Yesterday, I was afflicted with a bad case of vertigo. Not the worst bout I’ve had, but bad just the same. It kept me from my writing and wouldn’t let me read. Letters were swimming around on my screen and on printed pages. All the “w”s were doing the back stroke which made them look like “m”s. “p”s were doing flips off of invisible diving boards and maybe there were “b”s, “q”s, and “d”s doing that as well. That’s right, I’m Canadian, or ‘Canajun’ as Mark M. Orkin says in his book “Canajun, Eh?” This book is a lark, a spoof reference that pretends to be a dictionary of Canadian english. In actuality, it is a comprehensive list of the shibboleths that give us away in international company, complete with phonetic spelling.

Tao ~ my slow path to modern day enlightenment

Not being one who enjoys conflict, I have been trying to find my way through life peacefully. This way, or Tao, has brought some peace to my life, but some of the peace I sought was illusive. It has taken me many years to discover that there are things in my life that I could not tolerate without at least comment, things that require conflict for resolution to occur. In retrospect, many of these issues are trivial, but in life everything can be broken down into trivial pieces. It is only when the irritation caused by these trivial  pieces is exacerbated by the irritation of other trivial pieces that it becomes a distortion of the way. View full article »
