Happy New Year … Again

Hey, yesterday was the Chinese new year. Woohoo!

But the Chinese calendar has always bothered me. I have no problem with other cultures, I have no concerns about alternate calendar organization. I just have a problem with their zodiac.

Whenever you see a list of Chinese zodiac years they always list 1959, my birth year, as the year of the pig. View full article »

Out For My Birthday

Well, it was my birthday yesterday. And yes, I really am that old, half as old as I look, twice as old as I act. This raises the question of how old a person really is. Are you the age the calendar says? Or are you the age your mirror tells you you are? Or maybe you’re the age the neighbour kids think you are when you’re playing road hockey with them. I hope that’s the case, those of us with ADHD always look young when we get distracted by a road hockey game. Age is all about perception. View full article »

Shoulda'

Yesterday was “Getting rid of the ‘shoulds’ day”.

Less regrets …

Apparently, you were supposed to get rid of all the “I know I should …” do’s, be’s, have’s, etc that plague your conscience and trouble your sleep. View full article »

Fame is fortune where I come from!

One more famous ADHDer for the list … me!

I’ve read recently that if you’re an ADHDer you’re not likely going to be rich and famous. I’ve also read that that’s no reason to stop trying. Admittedly I’m not rich, and it’s not in my foreseeable future, but I know how to be famous. View full article »

Yes, that’s true, it isn’t everything, there are other things in life: debt, bills, service fees, the list goes on. Okay, in the spirit of the sentiment I’ll admit that there are good things in life that have nothing to do with the filthy lucre. There is poetry, laughter, love, and music … View full article »

Happy Anniversary.

A little something about marriage that I’d like to share. About two years ago, when my wife and I had been married for around twenty four years this little verbal transaction occurred in the kitchen of our house. View full article »

Family Reunion

It’s a hard job, but …

I spent the weekend at family reunions. One was miles away, the other was right here in town. The “miles away” one wasn’t my family, it was the family of a friend and I offered to drive. (The things I’ll do for food …)

The deal was that this reunion fell on my friend’s mother’s birthday, and my friend had told her family that she wouldn’t be able to make it. We drove down under cover of semi-heavy traffic and my friend snuck up behind her eighty-plus year old mother and kissed her on the cheek. Of course, pandemonium ensued. I endured accolades for being the deliverer of joy, I liked that, a lot. Call me Santa Claus. Tears flowed (not mine though! …okay, maybe a few were) and the result was a happy reunion. Walk it off

A step in the right direction.

I’ve been walking for my health off and on for a few years now and I have to say, it’s not as boring as I thought it would be. I mean, if you’ve read my post on driving, you already know I’m never alone (at least not in my head). Add to this the MP3 player, the GPS unit, my camera and voice recorder and my note pad and pen, it’s really a wonder I get any walking done. View full article »

More grey matter on a motorcycle …

Rolling down the road on my Honda is one of my favourite pastimes. The bike is old but runs well, a testament to Japanese technology, good maintenance and low mileage. I’ve aged a year for every year the bike has aged but I can’t say that I still run well (although my doctor is of Japanese descent).  I’ve gained experience though and I’ve come to this conclusion – “Ageing sucks!” View full article »
